Title
RHSA-2022:9082 -- kpatch-patch security update
Description
kernel: KVM: cmpxchg_gpte can write to pfns outside the userspace region.
kernel: openvswitch: integer underflow leads to out-of-bounds write in reserve_sfa_size().
kernel: watch queue race condition can lead to privilege escalation.
kernel: nfsd buffer overflow by RPC message over TCP with garbage data.
Family
unix
Platform
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.0
Product

Id:
CVE-2022-1158
Reference:
http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2022-1158
Comment
: A flaw was found in KVM. When updating a guest's page table entry, vm_pgoff was improperly used as the offset to get the page's pfn. As vaddr and vm_pgoff are controllable by user-mode processes, this flaw allows unprivileged local users on the host to write outside the userspace region and potentially corrupt the kernel, resulting in a denial of service condition.

Comment
: An integer coercion error was found in the openvswitch kernel module. Given a sufficiently large number of actions, while copying and reserving memory for a new action of a new flow, the reserve_sfa_size() function does not return -EMSGSIZE as expected, potentially leading to an out-of-bounds write access. This flaw allows a local user to crash or potentially escalate their privileges on the system.

Comment
: A race condition was found in the Linux kernel's watch queue due to a missing lock in pipe_resize_ring(). The specific flaw exists within the handling of pipe buffers. The issue results from the lack of proper locking when performing operations on an object. This flaw allows a local user to crash the system or escalate their privileges on the system.

Comment
: The Linux kernel NFSD implementation prior to versions 5.19.17 and 6.0.2 are vulnerable to buffer overflow. NFSD tracks the number of pages held by each NFSD thread by combining the receive and send buffers of a remote procedure call (RPC) into a single array of pages. A client can force the send buffer to shrink by sending an RPC message over TCP with garbage data added at the end of the message. The RPC message with garbage data is still correctly formed according to the specification and is passed forward to handlers. Vulnerable code in NFSD is not expecting the oversized request and writes beyond the allocated buffer space. CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
